So many different countries and cultures use paper lanterns around the world. They are used in Japan to remember ancestors. In Colombia, they are used as a religious offering to the Virgin Mary every December. We see them in the Chinese New Year celebrations as well. To talk about future and celebrations around the world that use paper lanterns I will me my own Cool Floating Paper Lanterns DIY with the kids.
Floating Paper Lanterns DIY
The inspiration for our paper lanterns has us preparing to recreate the fabulous lantern festival from the Disney movie Tangled! We are celebrating the release of the Tangled Before Ever After DVD release and we invite you to do the same at home! The kids can help make the lanterns and together you can send out good wishes into the night at your lake, pool or sea! Watch the paper lanterns float and even see if you can race them! Here is the simplest way I found to make floating paper lanterns:
Materials:
- 1 paper bag per lantern
- 1 battery operated tea light per lantern
- 1 plastic lid per lantern
- an ornamental hole puncher
- glue gun
Procedure:
- Use the hole puncher to decorate your paper bag
- Get your plastic lid and dab some glue gun in the center of it
- Affix the opened paper bag over the silicone on the plastic lid
- Place a lit battery operated tea light inside the bag
Now you are done and ready to illuminate your chosen body of water!
